| Schlachtschiff Bismarck - Das Original im Detail - Book Review | |
| Legendary German Bismarck expert Josef Kaiser started his interest in Bismarck back in the early sixties. In the late seventies he began a massive research in Bismarck at the same time he began the construction of a scratch built model in scale 1:100.
After more than 25 years of research and model building he now like to share some of his material and huge knowledge with the rest of us in a two volume set of books. One about the original Bismarck and one about his fantastic model (see below). The first volume is about the real Bismarck. So far it has been possible to buy two books about Bismarck with some 130 photographs in each book. These books has been the best help for ship modelers when they wanted to build fairly accurate models of Bismarck. Unfortunately these books didn't cover all areas and details about the ship leaving the enthusiast and modeler with some "black spots" with little or no information. Futhermore, many photos was not sharp and crisp enough to see all details. The new book from Josef Kaiser has more photographs of Bismarck than any other previous book ever, 250 photographs!!! Most of the photos has never been published before. All the photos are close up photos showing tonnes of details and the entire ship is pretty much covered. The book is a virtual tour of the battleship and each chapter deals with different parts of the ship, like hull, super structure, fore, aft, port side, starboard side, weapons etc. The photo quality is generally very good, there are a few photos that are not in good quality, but they still serve the purpose as they show some very vital details and therefore they should be in the book. But the book is not only unique because of all the fantastic new photos. The author carefully describe each photo and share a wealth of vital information with the readers that they can't find anywhere else. The book is composed of 162 pages, 250 photographs, all black and white. Currently it is only available in German language. This book is a must for anybody interested in the Bismarck. |

| Schlachtschiff Bismarck - Das Modell - Book Review | |
| Not many books are made about just one ship model. But Josef Kaiser's Bismarck model is so fantastic so it deserves its own book. We talk about the best Bismarck model ever made, much better than the commercial Bismarck model from fineartmodels which many are familiar with.
I have seen the model myself and you can look at it for hours and hours and you constantly see new details. It is a stunning experience and the result of more then 25 years of huge research and highly skilled craftmanship. With this book you now have the chance to study this model in your own home. You wont be disappointed. Not only will you find more than 500 photos of the model in the book, but Josef Kaiser share with you a lot of information about the details and ship. This book is not only for ship modelers. You will also learn a lot about the real ship from this book. The concept of this book are details, just like the book about the real ship is. This is also the most important for the ship modelers and enthusiasts. However I do wish there had been a couple of photos of the entire model in the book. Another thing I miss are a handfull of colour photos of the model. The book is composed of 162 pages, more than 500 photographs, all black and white. Currently it is only available in German language. I highly recommend this book too all interested in Bismarck. |
