The Type MWM RS 38 diesel motor (numbered 170093 in Bismarck and 170094 in Tirpitz) in the plant was a 6-cylinder fourstroke motor of 300 mm cylinder diameter and 380mm piston stroke, running at 600 rpm for 460 ehp. A 20% overload to 550 ehp was possible for half an hour. The generators (Type P23 FA925 10 Spec. BZ in Bismarck and Type P23 FA925/10+RP 91 sp. in Tirpitz) were manufactured by Garbe-Lohmeyer.
